Why always going the extra mile is so important.
I believe there is something magical about going the extra mile in your job and career, no matter if you are at the start, middle or top of your game!
From my past jobs, working in my teens at Mcdonald's to customer manager at #barclaycard or even doing door-to-door sales (YES, I did that, and it was very painful) Going the extra mile in all my past jobs somehow stored a lot of what I use now in some sort of skills #escrow for future Arn Terry.
You see going the extra mile is the magic to success and I will explain another great example.
If you go the extra mile in your current employment, by helping out in other departments, excelling at your work, helping others, skilling up and becoming more vocal and visible makes it difficult for your employer to turn you down on a pay increase and promotion! If you get passed on that promotion then remember my first paragraph, all that extra hard work and energy will be stored in your skills escrow for the future you to take advantage of.
Now lets talk professional hours you can clock up
Let's say you come in 30 mins early and leave 60 mins late after 5 days that's 7.5 extra hours of gaining more experience so extrapolate that over a 3-year working, career gives you roughly 1080 extra experience hours that you can factor in. Now here is the magic, when you go to an interview and are questioned you only have 3 years of experience but we need 5 years! Your counter is "well... actually over the past 3 years I have been working on average an extra 7.5 hours per week over the last three years so my true working experience is more like 4 years, and if I did this at my current place, just think work I can do working for you!"
Helping out
Another mindset Tweak is helping out within a role out of your job description, let's say Sales and Marketing could do with a hand and some assistance, instead of saying that's not in my job description, try thinking and saying out aloud... "My company is paying me to learn a new skill". Trust me that will come to good use in years to come and once again you can factor this in when it comes to your performance reviews interviews
